For ganske få øjeblikket siden blev spændingen udløst, og de nominerede til dette års Oscar show blev afsløret. Og selvom der måske ikke var de helt store overraskelser, så var der alligevel en del opsigtsvækkende valg.
Eksempelvis var der flere nomineringer til Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close der ellers ikke har fået nogen speciel varm modtagelse i den amerikanske presse. Der var også et par nomineringer til Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy der heller ikke for et par måneder siden var spået mange chancer.
Desværre var der hverken en nominering til Ole Christian Madsens SuperClásico eller Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive. Her var det nok mest overraskende, at der ikke var nogen til Drive. Der var en enkelt nominering til Drive, men det var for "Sound editing" unægteligt ikke en af de helt tunge.
Et af de lidt overraskende ting er, at der ikke var nogen nominering til Steven Spielberg og Peter Jacksons Tintin film. Blandt de nominerede var derimod Chico & Rita, hvilket der nok ikke var mange der havde forventet.
